Fourteen years after genocide, an unprecedented Revival is taking place in Rwanda and spreading around the World.
Up to one million people who lost their lives; more than one million displaced within Rwanda; massive number of refugees to neighboring Congo (~2 million), Tanzania (~480,000), Burundi (~200,000) and Uganda (~10,000); evil piled upon horror, and a legacy of hatred and fear for years to come: these are some of the terrible consequences of the tragedy in which the nation of Rwanda collapsed under the pressure of violence, economic crisis and political chaos, allowing hunger and disease to sweep away the weak and dispossessed. But figures alone cannot convey the immensity of the Rwandan tragedy. How to comprehend that more than half the people of a country were killed, driven out, dying or displaced?
It is in this highly unusual context that God sovereignly called Dr. Paul Gitwaza to go to Rwanda, to preach a message of repentance, forgiveness and prepare the way for Rwanda to become a “dwelling place for the Lord”(Psa 132:13). He was then a young man 23 years old, who was born and grew up in such a remote place of the Congo - and the world- that he had not seen a car at age 15.
His assignment was to start a ministry called “Authentic Word” which would be the beginning of a vision God had given him two years earlier (1992), for an end time revival movement in the Church that will reach every corner of the world.
Thus, Dr. Paul Gitwaza is President of Authentic Word Ministries International which he founded in 1996, with a mandate to "Prepare the Bride of Christ for His imminent return." (Amos 4:12). Today, the ministry is the key player in birthing the Revival that is taking place in Rwanda, and in spreading it around the world.
Born in a Christian family, Gitwaza’s father was the first convert and pastor with the Pentecostal missionaries who came to his native and remote Eastern Congo from Sweden. He received Jesus as His Lord and Savior at age 9, was baptized in the Holy Ghost at 12, preached his first sermon at age 14, and went full time ministry in 1993, at age 22. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2007 from the International Graduate School of Ministry in Bellevue, Washington. In January 2008, he is 36 and married to Pastor Angelique, with whom they have three sons: Elisha, Luke and David.
He is also Senior Pastor of Zion Temple Celebration Center – Kigali, the first church he started in 1999, to serve as the spiritual arm of the ministry, with a Vision to “Become a dwelling place for God” (Psa 132:13). Nine years later, Zion Temple Church has grown to become the largest church in Rwanda with a membership of 18,000.
A key leader of the Apostolic movement in Rwanda and Central Africa, Dr. Paul Gitwaza is Vice-President of the Alliance of Christian Churches in Rwanda. He also serves as an Apostolic overseer to 11 other Zion Temple Celebration Centers that the ministry planted in other major Rwandan urban centers. These churches are experiencing unprecedented revivals as well, both in numbers and spiritual maturity.
Dr Paul Gitwaza travels extensively functioning in the role of an Apostle to a dozen other Zion Temple Celebration Centers that he planted on all 4 major continents: Africa (Burundi, Congo (DRC), Tanzania), Europe (Belgium, Denmark, France, UK) and America (USA, Canada). Last year, a mission post was established in China, substantiating the ministry presence in Asia.
Outside his own network of churches, He has traveled to more than 20 African nations, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea, UK and USA, conducting Apostolic conferences and Evangelic crusades on building the Kingdom of God and establishing the divine order on Earth.
Gifted in the areas of Seer anointing, Prophecy, Word of knowledge and wisdom, God is using him in demonstration of power, miracles, signs and wonders for the purpose of delivering His people from Satanic bondage, demonic possession, sickness and diseases. He also moves in the gifts of apostolic preaching and revelation knowledge that God is imparting to His church for City, Regional, and National Transformation.
An accomplished worshipper, his leading career started at age 13 as the leader of the Youth Choir called the “Voice of the Evangelist”, at the Church where his father was aPastor. During this season, many songs would come to him in dreams and visions. It is during this time that Paul taught himself to play guitar.
In 1991, he co-founded Agape Music, a tremendously popular gospel music band which contributed to bring revival in the region where he was attending College. In 1993, He moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where he stayed for 2 years. He became involved as guest worship leader in various evangelical crusades. In 1995-2005, God called him to go to Rwanda, where he was primarily dedicated to the ministry of the word, and secondarily to prayer and worship.
In the Summer 2006, under a gentle reminder of the Holy Spirit, he made a commitment to combine the ministry of the word and the ministry of worship. As a result, he recently completed the production of his first Audio Album in the USA.
His vision for a worldwide revival in the church is centered around:
The restoration of the Altar of Prayer (1 Kings 18:30)
The rebuilding of the Tabernacle of David (Acts 15:16)
The recovery of the priesthood of the believer (Rev 5:10)
Under the leadership of the Apostle Dr. Paul Gitwaza, Authentic Word Ministries Inc. organizes and sponsors numerous International Conferences:
-“Africa Rise and Shine”, which brings together since 2000, delegates from several nations of the world to visit Rwanda and witness for themselves the work of peace and reconciliation that God is doing;

Dr. Paul Gitwaza is a vessel completely yielded to the move of the Holy Spirit. God raised him, prepared him and tested him in the most difficult circumstances: to bring hope, healing, peace and reconciliation to a Rwandan people completely broken by the scars of wars and ethnic cleansing in their native land. Today, out of the ashes of genocide, God is turning their sorrow into joy and their mourning into a season of celebration. The wind of spiritual renewal is blowing, and a great revival unlike anything the world has ever known is taking place. It a revival of reconciliation and humility, which is profoundly transforming the Rwandan society - only a decade after it was brought to total collapse.
This move of the Holy Spirit is much needed everywhere else. In his capacity as a Apostle and Prophet to the Nations, Dr Paul Gitwaza is serving at the center of God preferred strategy for Missions. Many Rwandans fled the country during the war. They are virtually in every country of the world. While they may look at themselves as refugees, God sees as and calls them Missionaries of the end times Church. They may be struggling spiritually, but God sent them ahead of time so that, for such a time as this, they may bring revival in places where they are planted. God is sending Dr Paul Gitwaza to bring his recipe for Revival to the Rwandan in the Diaspora, so that in turn, they may bring Revival to the communities where they live. May the Highest Glory be to God!
