My Trip to Rwanda
By Steven Webb, Pastor, Faith Church, Adamsville, Alabama
December 1, 2006 at 9:45 p.m. I departed Atlanta’s International Airport on Delta’s Air France bound for Kigali, Rwanda. I had no idea all that God had in store for me but I was ready and anxious for Him to do a great work in my heart. I had been praying for months for the “Africa Arise Conference” that was to be held at Zion Temple Celebration Center. As I said good-bye to my eldest son and boarded the plane the excitement was almost more than I could take. I knew I would never be the same. God had been telling me that for weeks and now I knew that it was going to take place. He is a God of promise!
I landed in Kigali 31 hours later at 1:25 p.m., Sunday afternoon December 3rd. It was my 46th birthday and I could not have asked for a better birthday present. As the pilot made the last call for everyone to return to his or her seats that we were preparing for our decent to Kigali, I began to weep openly. God had brought me here to change my heart. I was coming to Rwanda to speak at the Conference but instead God had spoken to my heart and said, “You are not here to be a speaker but a listener.”
I arrived at the airport to find a lady from Zion Temple named, “Kayitesi.” She escorted me through customs and introduced me to another lady from Zion Temple named “Chantal.” They drove me to the place where I would be staying and told me someone would be back to pick me up for the evening service in about an hour. They were so cordial and took every effort to make sure that I was taken care of and to see if I needed anything. I will never forget their hospitality.
I left for the service in about 2 hours and I could hardly wait to see the people at church. As we drove onto the property of Zion Temple I was amazed at the mass of people coming from what seemed every part of the city to the service! They were pouring in by the thousands! I was ushered into the pastor’s office and greeted by Apostle Paul and many African Pastors! My heart was beating like a drum! I was so excited to be here and couldn’t believe that this Alabama boy was half way around the world and about to celebrate Jesus with brothers and sisters he had never seen before. The music was coming through the walls of the study and I could not wait to enter the sanctuary!
The pastoral staff prayed together lead by the Apostle Paul and we made our way into the sanctuary. I thought I would fall out right there in the front of the church. The presence of God was so real that I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! The singing was absolutely heavenly and the music was like I had never heard before. Pastor Leonard Mana in Atlanta had told me that God was going to do great things and that I would love Zion Temple and I could not imagine it being any better than this! This was heaven!
Every night and every day the Spirit of the Lord was so present in the service. We had a great and mighty moving of God every time we met! I would call my wife back in Alabama every night and could not talk for weeping while trying to tell her of all God was doing there in my heart. I remember the first time I called home crying and she asked, “Steven are you alright?” I finally got the words out, “Honey, I have never been better! This is the most amazing thing I have ever attended in all of my life.” I have had the privilege of being in almost every sate in the United States and preaching in many pulpits across this nation of mine but never had I been anywhere where the presence of God was so powerful! It was absolutely amazing.
During the week the people of Zion Temple took such wonderful care of me. I was treated like some Foreign Dignitary. I was chauffeured around like I was the President. I will never forget the wonderful people that I met and the life long friendships we will enjoy. I had interpreters in every service. Anna, John, and Willy made sure that I didn’t miss a single word that was being said in every service! I had people like Auntie Mary, Eric, Trezor, and Kayitesi that were there to see that every need I had was met with the kindness that only the Spirit of the Lord can impart. The pastoral staff became brothers and sisters to me while God brought all of us together. Pastor Charlie, Pastor Chantal, Pastor DieuDonne, Bishop Bienvenu, and the Shumbuso Family made a spiritual bond in my heart that neither time nor distance could separate! We are linked together by the love of God
God promised that I would never be the same and that He would change my heart forever and He did! He is a God of His Word! I will forever remember those 12 days in December of 2006 as the time when I saw God move and work like never before. God moved and worked in all of our hearts and I will never forget my days in Rwanda! I hope to return again soon and take my wife. She too wants to visit Zion Temple and see all that God is doing there in the hearts and lives of our African brothers and sisters! I owe so much to the Apostle Paul and the wonderful people of Zion Temple. I pray for them daily and thank Him that I am allowed to be apart of what God is doing there at Zion Temple!
There is no God like our God, Jehovah!

In August 1999, under the leadership of Apostle Paul Gitwaza, the ministry opened the doors of its first Zion Temple Celebration Center in Kigali, Rwanda. Six years later, Zion Temple Church has grown to be the largest church in Rwanda with a membership of 15000. ZTCC – Brussels: Seven Weeks of Immersion, Wednesday January 31, 2007
As we were coming to the end of the 100 days of prayer and fasting (from Sep 22 to Dec 31, 2006), our pastor was instructed by the Holy Spirit to lead the Church in a special season of 7 weeks. Hundred is 10x10. Ten, as there are 10 commandments for instance, stands for the order established by God. Thus, new deacons and elders were ordained on Dec 31.
Seven is a number that refers to perfection and accomplishment. Two particular portions of the Scriptures talk about this:
-2 Kings 5:1-19. Though Naaman was a great soldier and a friend of the king, he was suffering from leprosy. The prophet Elisha told him to dip himself 7 times in the Jordan River and he will be healed from the disease. Then, the commander took some load of earth from the land of Israel to build an altar to worship the Lord.
- Exo 29:29-37. Seven days were taken to ordain Aaron and his sons before they start their duties as priests. Seven days were required to make atonement for the altar and to consecrate it.
So were we to spend 7 Sundays, soaked in the power of God, while the Holy Spirit will be at work in each one's life, removing every hidden uncleaness. Finally, both as individuals and as a Church, we will be released into a new dimension of salvation. As the veil is removed, we will gain a new knowledge of God and we will be able to worship Him more consistantly. Mat 13:10-17, 2 Cor 3:15-18, 2 Cor 4:3-4, 2 Pet 1:2-3, Job 42:2-5.
Therefore, our weekly program willl be slightly modified, only keeping :
-Intercession of the Daughters of Zion on Wednesdays
-Friday overnights at Zaventem
-Sunday services in Brussels.
On the 1st Sunday, Pastor Bienvenu preached about the blind man in John 9:1-41. The Lord uses miracles not only to show His power or to grant deliverance but also as a mean to teach us. Sometimes, He puts mud on our eyes and we go through hardship. This time of trial allows us to see the glory of God in such a way that would not have been possible otherwise. On the other hand, the Lord wants to deliver us from spritual blindness so that we may see, may walk by His side at His pace and may worship Him with understanding. So, humbled by the mud on our eyes, we are sent to the Pool of Siloam(which means "sent"), that is, the servants of God who will pray for us to have our sight restored.
For the following 3 Sundays, the Pastor went on preaching about the seven underground levels, giving insight about the organization of the devil's kingdom and how people could be bound at those levels. He also told us that Jesus Christ, as the Lamb of God, held the fulness of God's revelation John 1:29, Rev 5:1-10, 2 Cor 1:20.
This truth is a weapon Christians should learn to make use of in their warfare Eph 2:12, Rev 12:11. Jesus came to set the captives free Luk 4:18-21, Psa 107:10-22. He who went down to the lower regions, is the One who ascended victorious, taking the plunder of souls with Him and holding the keys of Death and Hades Eph 4:9-11, Phil 2:6-11.

ZTCC – Kigali, Rwanda: Apostle Paul Gitwaza delivers a teaching on Deliverance from ANGER
Sunday January 21, 2007
1. Introduction
Anger is a feeling of offense, insult or attack. Anger is inevitable because of many things that occur and happen in our daily life. So it is impossible to completely avoid being angry, nor is it desirable to try to suppress anger.
Anger is a natural reaction to being hurt or offended. It is like a smoke detector. The sound a smoke detector makes may be annoying, but it alerts you to the fact that the air space has been violated. In like manner, anger can serve as a warning system.
The Bible advices us not to become angry but to avoid that anger lead us into sin or to give a foothold to the devil.
Eph 4:25-27. If you become angry, do not let your anger lead you into sin, and do not stay angry all day. Don't give the devil a chance(TEV).
(And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry. For anger gives a foothold to the devil. NTL.)
So it is important to understand that anger is not a sin. Even:
a. God gets angry: Nbr 11:1, 10
b. Jesus gets angry: Marc 3:5
c. Why not us? James 1:19
But anger can become a sin if is not properly expressed and dealt with. Unresolved anger can also degenerate to more serious stages. It becomes like a malignant cancer, if we don’t properly deal with it, it can mutate into bitterness and hatred, then later expressed in wrath, insult and vengeance.
Aristotle (The Nicomachean Ethics) said:
“Any one can become angry-That is easy.
But to be angry with the right person, right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way-That is not easy.”
Although it is acceptable to get angry, it should not be the norm. Anger should be the exception, not the rule.
2. Anger can be churned by different sources.
Prov 30:33.For the churning of milk produces butter and pressing the nose brings forth blood; so the churning of anger produces strife.
Harm, outrage, resentment, humiliation, inappropriate answers, indignation, irritability, hatred, critics, etc.
3. Anger can be Contagious.
Prov. 22:24-25. Do not associate with a man given to anger; or go with a hot-tempered man, or you will learn his ways and find a snare for yourself.
Gen 49:6. "Let my soul not enter into their council; Let not my glory be united with their assembly; because in their anger they slew men, and in their self-will they lamed oxen.
4. Anger is a flood. So it can destroy many things and lives if not properly managed.
Prov 27:4-6. Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood…
James 1:19. This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.
5. Two improper ways to express anger:
a. Stuffers (hiders) have difficult to express admitting that they are angry and have an even harder time expressing their anger. Why? Because:
- They think anger is sin
- They are uncomfortable with confrontation.
- They learnt this behavior to their family members (legacy)
- They have been victims of their family who spewed their anger to them and having been the recipient of that pain, they chose to act opposite.
- Feeling of low self-worth make them feel as if they are not worthy of being heard.
- Fear inhibits their willingness to express anger.
b. Spewers (hurlers) just the opposite. When they are upset, they let you know it, and it’s usually not pretty. Why this? Because:
- They do not have self-control mechanism.
- They don’t know how to express they anger properly
- They grew up around family members with the same character so, they have learned the same behavior.
- Self-defense mechanism, because they were oppressed in childhood or in some circumstances.
- Personal insecurities cause them to want to intimidate others.
Freedom from the anger
1. To realize that anger comes from hurt.
If some one wants to make us angry, it’s reasonable to realize that he may also walk under pressure of something. So it is recommendable to have a keen insight into how to respond to him. Without hurting him or been victimized ourselves. Pr 15:1.” A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.”
Share the hurt not the anger. To deal properly with the anger we must first of all deal with the hurt beneath anger.
2. Deal with the offender directly:
In this case it is good to learn to differentiate minor and major issues and who is responsible of the issue, after that use the biblical principal:
Math 18:15. “If another believer* sins against you,* go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses. If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.
3. Seek to understand what happened and why happened.
Every story has two sides. We may get angry or be angry because we have heard only one perspective. Upon hearing other side, we may realize our anger unfounded.
Pr 18:17. The first to speak in court sounds right—until the cross-examination begins.
Jam 1:19.Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
4. To turn away anger.
Prov 29:8: Scorners set a city aflame, but wise men turn away anger.
5. To be kept under control.
Prov 29:11. A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back. Eph 4:31. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior, by:
a. Speak (share) the truth in love. Eph 4:15. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
b. Forgive the offender. Col 3:13.Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Rom 12:17-21. “Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say: “I will take revenge; will pay them back,”. Says the Lord. Instead, if your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads. “Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”
6. To develop our daily intimacy with the Lord.
This will help us to bear the fruit of the Spirit.
Gal 5:22.But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

ZTCC – Kigali, Rwanda: Apostle Paul Gitwaza delivers a teaching on Deliverance from FEAR
Sunday January 28, 2007
1. Scriptures: Gen 12:10-20, 20:1-11. I King 19:1-4, I Cor 7:5
2. Introduction: Fear is an emotion common to humanity.
The father of faith, Abraham struggled with fear; the great prophet Elijah also faced it, even the great Apostle Paul struggled with fear.
3. Definition: According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, fear is defined as:
-An unpleasant often strong emotion caused by expectation or awareness of danger.
Synonyms: dread, fright, alarm, panic, terror, trepidation, anxiety, apprehension, nervousness, consternation, concern.
4. Symptoms of Fear:
Fear can cause: Increased heart rate, high blood pressure, chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, lightheadedness, panic attacks, and intense headaches.
Fear can impact our behavior: We can become controlling, attempting to control people, our environment, agenda, and etc. Why? Because I’m fearful of the future, but if I can control everything and every one around me, I’ll be in control so I can make sure things work out favorable for me.
Fear can cause us: to be intolerant and critical of others. In this level, we are unable to praise other people or to appreciate them. Even if, people are saying their reputation, we find their weakness and we start criticize them. Why? Because we want people stay focused on us, so we may not loose their affection.
Fear can cause us: to be insecure. Because of this we resist people who are different from us and avoid situations that are unpredictable. Why? Because we want stay well within our comfort zone and remain intimidated by, and therefore intolerant of, anyone who is different.
Fear can escalate into *phobias, if unresolved: We may become intensely afraid of the dark, heights, enclosed areas, flying, bush, water and other things.
[* phobias= an irrational persistent fear. dread or fright]
5. Sources of Fear
A. Past hurt: Unresolved hurt from the past can lead to present fear. I King 12:1-19 People use to say:
- I suffered through a very hurtful divorce. Now I’m afraid to get close to anyone.
- I was abused by my father. Now I’m afraid to stay longer with a man. Or I’m afraid that my husband or our guests can rape my young daughter.
- I was in bad car accident when I was young. Now I’m afraid to drive.
- Mom or Dad died of cancer when she/he was 33 years old. Now I’m afraid I’ll get it.
NB: The hurt must be properly dealt with before, after that the fear will subside.
B. Lies from Satan: Satan is the father of lies, John 8:44. He wants to put us in eternal bondage of fear by binding our mind with his lies. Once taken hostage by evil and negative thoughts, we can not have a fruitful and meaningful life.
People say:
-When you’ll hear the news about a young boy killed by a maidservant, the devil will suggest in your mind: “Your kid will be also killed by your maid servant.” And we believe it and we become hostage of that lie.
- If we read an article about unfaithful man or woman and devil suggest: “Your spouse will cheat you.”
-We’ll wake up in the night and the devil whispers: “Your boss is really disappointed in you, so you will lose you job soon”.
-A friend will share with us the pain of his divorce and devil will convince our thought, “You marriage is going to end in the same way”.
-We will visit our sister who suffers with a cancer, and Satan will tell us: You’re a likely candidate”.
NB: But we can’t always blame the devil for errant thoughts. Lies are often self-inflicted.
Our minds will wander aimlessly, inadvertently attach to a random thought, embrace it, embellish it, believe it- and then we are trapped and taken hostage.
C. The unusual and the unknown
Here we may experience natural, even anticipated anxiety over certain events, particularly first-time events. Examples:
- Kids have fear on the first day of their elementary school.
- Anxious in our new job
- Fear during our first trip oversees
- Fear before a big congregation
- Fear before exams or tests
- Fear before authorities or senior leaders.
6 .Dimensions of Fear
- Mental dimension, means mind (able to think and reason)
- Emotional dimension, means feeling (able to feel)
- Volitional dimension, means a will ( able to make decision)
Fear based on past hurt is-: - Mental-20% - Emotional- 60% - Volitional (will)-20%
Fear based on devil’s lies is -:
- Mental-50% - Emotional- 30% - Volitional (will)-20%
Fear based on the unusual and the unknown is-:
- Mental-20% - Emotional- 40% - Volitional (will)-40%
Freedom from fear: Fear impacts all three areas, and there is a distinct biblical solution suggested.
-The mental dimension of fear is ministered to by truth. John 8:32
-The emotional dimension of fear is ministered to by perfect love. 1 John 4:18
-The volitional dimension of fear is ministered to by faith. Luke 8:25
- Conclusion
Heb 3:14-18. Jesus came to earth to set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
John 8:36: So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

Apostle Paul Gitwaza new CD available online at www.gitwaza.com
Apostle Paul Gitwaza released his new CD album “Imirimo Yawe” during his trip in the USA. The album contains 10 songs and each song has its deep meaning. Each song has the potential to lift up the listener to a higher level of glory. Many people know Paul Gitwaza as an Apostle and a Preacher, but not as a Worshipper. Only in few minutes, your eyes will be open to new levels of glory, and you will enjoy and experience anew the love of Jesus Christ toward you!
